Why Men’s Health Matters More Than Ever #HealthyMen:

The Government of Canada has recently launched a national conversation on men and boys’ health. This is an important step toward addressing long-standing gaps in awareness, care, and prevention. This initiative aims to inform the development of Canada’s first Men and Boys’ Health Strategy, bringing attention to physical, mental, and social health challenges that have too often been overlooked.

At Men’s Health Clinic, we strongly support this movement. Every day, we see firsthand how proactive, accessible healthcare can change lives. This national conversation reinforces what we already know: supporting men’s health strengthens families, workplaces, and communities.

While progress has been made in healthcare overall, men continue to face disproportionate health risks and barriers to care:

  • Men are three times more likely to die by suicide than women.
  • Over 70% of opioid-related deaths in Canada occur among males.
  • Men are twice as likely to die from preventable causes.
  • 65% of Canadian men delay seeking medical care, often waiting a week or longer after symptoms appear before seeing a doctor.

These numbers tell a clear story: many men are struggling, and too often, silently.

Social norms, stigma, time pressures, and lack of access to male-focused healthcare services can discourage men from seeking help. This leads to delayed diagnoses, untreated conditions, and preventable health complications. Addressing these challenges requires not only policy-level change, but also accessible, specialized, and compassionate care at the clinical level.

How Men’s Health Clinic Is Contributing to the Conversation

At Men’s Health Clinic, our mission is to close the gap in men’s healthcare by creating a space where men feel supported, informed, and empowered to take charge of their health.

We focus on early intervention, education, and comprehensive care, addressing some of the most prevalent public health issues affecting men today.

1. Mental Health & Emotional Wellbeing

We recognize the deep connection between physical health, mental wellbeing, and quality of life. By offering hormone assessments, sexual health care & counselling, and supportive consultations, we help uncover underlying factors that may contribute to issues that often go undiagnosed in men.

Creating an environment where men feel comfortable discussing mental and emotional health is a core part of our approach.

2. Fertility Awareness & Family Planning

Male fertility plays a role in up to 50% of infertility cases, yet many men are unaware of how significantly their health, lifestyle, and medical history influence reproductive outcomes.

We provide fertility assessments, diagnostic testing, education, and treatment options, including vasectomy and vasectomy reversal services, to support informed family planning decisions at every stage of life.

3. Preventive Care, Early Detection, & Education

Preventive healthcare saves lives. From routine screenings to proactive hormone and fertility testing, early detection allows conditions to be identified before they become serious.

Men’s Health Clinic is committed to educating men on how to take a proactive approach to their health.

4. Whole-Person Wellness

Health is not just about disease prevention, it’s about quality of life, confidence, and overall wellbeing. Through services such as PRP for hair restoration and medical aesthetic treatments, we support men in feeling confident, healthy, and comfortable in their own skin.

Wellness is deeply connected to mental health, self-esteem, and life satisfaction.

Why This National Conversation Matters

The Government of Canada’s initiative represents an important shift: acknowledging that men’s health requires targeted attention, research, and tailored healthcare solutions.

By encouraging Canadians to contribute their experiences and insights, this campaign aims to shape policies and programs that reflect real needs.

At Men’s Health Clinic, we see this as a powerful opportunity to create lasting change.

Join the Conversation

Improving men’s health requires collective effort from individuals, families, healthcare providers, employers, and policymakers. Every voice matters.

From now until June 1st, 2026, contribute to the conversation by filling out a questionnaire designed to inform the Government of Canada on their upcoming men’s health strategy.

By supporting awareness, encouraging open dialogue, and prioritizing prevention, we can help shape a healthier future for men and boys across Canada.

At Men’s Health Clinic Manitoba, we’re proud to be part of that movement.
