Botox is for men too. Over time, we have learned more and more about the aging process. As the face ages, there is a combination of volume loss and the development of wrinkles from repetitive facial muscle use. Volume loss can be replaced through the use of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers (see our page on fillers here) whereas neuromodulators serve a different purpose.
Neuromodulators such as Botox and Dysport target facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles to form from repeated contractions of the muscles over time, such as squinting or frowning. Neuromodulators are derived from a purified protein that works by relaxing the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles when it is injected right into the facial muscles, resulting in a more refreshed and smooth skin appearance.
The most common areas of treatment include the frown lines that run between the eyebrows, the horizontal forehead lines, and the crow’s feet around the outer eye. Repeated use of these products can soften expression lines and help to stop the formation or further deepening of lines over time! Patients can expect to see results from treatment as soon as 5 to 7 days after treatment but may take up to 14 days to fully take effect. The result is a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance!

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox For Men
Patients can expect to see results from treatment within 5 to 7 days after treatment, but the product can take up to 14 days to fully take effect.
Results vary from one individual to another based on a multitude of factors such as metabolism, age, exercise and stress levels. However, the average person can expect to get between 3 and 4 months from their treatment results with some patients deriving benefit for up to 6 months.
Some side effects may include tenderness or sensitivity at the injection sites, bruising, infection, headache, tingling/numbing and in rare circumstance a risk of ptosis.
The downtime is minimal. In most cases, we recommend avoiding strenuous activity for at least 24 hours post-treatment. No anesthetic is required.
Medications such as aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) can be resumed 24 hours after treatment.
Alcohol should be avoided for 24 hours post-treatment.
It is best not to touch or manipulate the treatment area post injection and to avoid wearing hats that put pressure across the forehead. If treatment has been performed between the brows, patients should not lay down for 4 hours afterwards to prevent migration of the medication to unintended locations. Patients should avoid having facials or facial massages for 2 weeks post treatment to avoid spread of the product into neighbouring muscles.
It is best to wait at least 6 to 8 hours (preferably 24) to apply makeup or other skin products to treatment area.
Patients can move their facial muscles such as frowning or scowling immediately after treatment to assist the product in reaching all areas of target in the muscles being treated. However, this is not a necessary intervention as our facial muscles are always at work and this will happen naturally on its own especially if we are used to engaging the treated muscles in our normal facial expressions.
